Renowned movie translator and influencer Marc Uwizeye, commonly known as Rocky Kimomo, premiered “Wrath of Soldier” to thunderous applause at the Park Inn Hotel, on Saturday, March 25. The 32-year-old filmmaker said he’s been building towards this film his whole life. Available on Eastflix, an East African-based online video and audio site that promotes the region’s music and films, the multiple-part film tells the story of a soldier who is sent on a mission as he is in preparation to get married, on return, he finds out that his fiancée was killed, sending the soldier on a vengeful rampage. The film stars renowned actor, athlete, and bodybuilder Alfred Niyonzima, as the protagonist, and also features well-known figures like Young Grace, Anita Pendo, Serge Iyamuremye, Ddumba, Fatakumavuta and more. For now, only two parts of the film are out, but Kimomo confirmed that other parts will be released too. “I thank everyone who contributed to this big project, it cost us a lot but we did it for the love of the industry,” Kimomo said at the premiere. He added, “We’ve been asked to do this for a long time, this is the time to show you the results of our hard work. We expect great support from you (cinema lovers).” Save for the ones who bought copies of the movie during the event, it can be watched on Eastflix for Rwf5, 000. Singer Juno Kizigenza who was among the many celebrities who attended the event told The New Times he was very happy and proud to see a Rwandan doing such amazing stuff. “We should support our own and motivate them, the way we do it for foreigners who don’t even know we exist,” he said.
