Ferwafa sets ambitious plan for Qatar 2022 World Cup The national football federation, Ferwafa has set an ambitious development strategy which is aimed at seeing Rwanda at the Fifa Qatar 2022 World Cup finals. The mega plan dubbed ‘Ferwafa-everyone can play’, was created in the just concluded football strategy seminar organized jointly by the English FA and Ferwafa here in Kigali. Les Howie, head of grassroots development in the English FA, who conducted the seminar, said on Thursday, “This plan will help Rwanda aspire to qualify for the World Cup by 2022. All stake holders have to play a vital role in implementing this strategy so as to be able to achieve the 2022 Qatar vision,” said Howie. On his part, Ferwafa supremo, Brig. Gen. Jean Bosco Kazura hailed the English FA and urged members of Rwanda’s football fraternity to embrace the strategy and kick off implementation policies so as to be able to reach the set objective. Participants, who included members from the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, the national Olympic Committee, Primus League clubs referees, coaches, FERWAFA Executive Committee promised to start initiating the pan in their areas of operation. The grand development strategic plan will focus on what is described by it’s formulators as ‘a new vision, mission, purpose and objectives’ for the next 11 years. It also acknowledges strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to the local football, how to ensure the dream of competing in Qatar World Cup, what needs to be done from now up to 2022 in all team categories, namely U-13, U-15, U-17, U-20 and senior national team. During the seminar, participants were also lectured on developing an international team, player development, club and competition development, working with free press, community football, and workforce development. The Amavubi Stars last participated in a major competition during the 2004 African Nations Cup held in Tunisia, however the junior wasps (U-17)’s participation in the just concluded 2011 Fifa World Cup in Mexico, gives hope that with proper panning, half if not the whole of this ambitious grand plan could be achieved.
