Roundabouts solution to traffic jams

Editor, Allow me to express my appreciation to Kigali City Council (KCC) for constructing a round-about at Kisementi, which has since considerably reduced the evening traffic jams. The decision was timely considering how the Kisementi area was prone to traffic jam during peak hours. I am of the view that the city council and the ministry of transport should consider revising all major junctions and replace them with roundabouts. We have particular points on our major city roads which are prone to congestions during the evening and in the morning rush hours. If all these points are converted into roundabouts, the issue of jam can be addressed. A roundabout helps motorist manoeuvre smoothly without causing congestion and I think these can come in handy, especially when the number of vehicles on our roads is increasing. It is also commendable that the government has embarked on constructing alternative routes that link the main roads especially around Minijust-Gisushu-Kisementi area which will help reduce traffic jam on the Kimihurura-Kisementi main highway. Motorists should opt to manoeuvre through these alternative roads to avoid being caught up in the jam. Emmanuel RucibigangoKimironko
