Kagame thanks artistes

KIGALI - President Paul Kagame, on Friday evening, hosted musicians and journalists to a reception, to thank them for their support during the election last year. It was such a memorable evening, as high ranking government officials, including the Prime Minister, Bernard Makuza, ministers, RPF members and businesspeople, gathered at Village Urugwiro for the party. The President thanked the artistes for their overwhelming support during the campaign period. Kagame added that the event was a special day for the two groups because they did a great job during the campaign and have continued to demonstrate patriotism in their fields. He stated that he got the opportunity to thank the private sector for the support they rendered during the campaign period and he couldn’t fail to thank the musicians and journalists for the great role they played too. The President pointed out that the polls provided Rwandans with the opportunity to express their choice, which they did by overwhelmingly voting RPF back into office. Kagame called upon the artistes to continue developing themselves as they build the country. The Head of State offered five fully covered return tickets as a gift of appreciation to three musicians and two journalists to accompany Amavubi Junior team, at the Fifa U-17 World Cup in Mexico, slated for June 10 –July 18, this year. At the colourful ceremony, the Mayor of Kigali, Fidele Ndayisaba, said that the campaign will continue for the next seven years. “RPF victory does not stop we shall continue with our campaign as we move our country forward,” he said. Speaking on behalf of the artistes, Intore Masamba thanked the President for recognizing the role they played during the campaign, pointing out that the Rwandan artistes draw inspiration from the President. He presented Amavubi Junior jersey t-shirt to President Kagame as a token of appreciation from the artists. On behalf of the journalists, Anita Pendo, from Contact FM, thanked President Kagame for recognising their efforts in objectively presenting the competing candidates’ views to the electorate, which in the end helped them make the right choice. The artistes warmed the evening by performing the songs that featured during the campaign and left officials with no option but to take to the dance floor. Ends
