Genocide Exhibition kicks off in Kigali

The National Commission for the Fight against Genocide (CNLG), yesterday, launched the ‘Genocide Exhibition’ as part of the preparations for the 17th commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi. April 7, is the official Genocide commemoration Day and beginning of the commemoration period. The exhibition, scheduled to end on April 12, portrays how the 1994 massacre of the Tutsis was carried out as well as its aftermath. Among subjects depicted is the role played by several institutions, including the previous regimes, media, the youth and colonialists, in organizing and implementing the Genocide, where over a million people lost their lives. Other areas covered in the exhibition include how the Genocide was brought to an end by the Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPA). It also highlights the role of civil resistance in fighting of the killers. Prime Minister, Bernard Makuza presided over the launch.“It’s the undisputed truth…Genocide was organised, implemented and there is evidence,” he said, adding that “it’s the truth that should always be supported and taught to generations in schools and through the media.”This year’s commemoration will be held under the theme: Upholding the Truth, Preserving our Dignity.” “Those who took part in Genocide have no place to hide. It is impossible to refute the truth. Those who took part (in Genocide) will face justice accordingly,” noted Makuza. The Premier appealed to the nation to support survivors during the commemoration period, which is a difficult moment for them. The Genocide exhibition also highlights the achievements realized in the last 17 years, including justice, unity and reconciliation, support to survivors, health, education and women empowerment. Ends
