US Diaspora wants Rusesabagina prosecuted

KIGALI - Members of the Diaspora from the state of Texas, are looking into a legal discourse to ensure that Paul Rusesabagina is finally brought to justice for allegedly being a top financier of the FDLR, a terrorist outfit operating in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The FDLR, comprises mainly of remnants of the former Rwandan army (Ex_FAR) and Interahamwe militia that orchestrated the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. According to a statement from the Rwandan Embassy in the USA, the Diaspora expressed their discontent that no legal action had been taken despite several complaints levelled against Rusesabagina. “The community believes that Rusesabagina continues to walk a free man because some politicians continue to shield him. He too must face the law like other individuals who have been apprehended for supporting terrorist groups worldwide,” the statement reads. The Diaspora community from various cities in Texas including Dallas, Houston and Austin, expressed their concerns during a meeting, last week, with the Rwandan Ambassador to the US, James Kimonyo. The Diaspora community also praised the government for ensuring peace, justice and security and pledged support in dispelling the falsehoods being peddled against Rwanda.Ambassador Kimonyo, who is visiting members of the Rwandan Diaspora living in various US cities, highlighted the achievements the country has registered over the last sixteen years and urged the Diaspora to invest in Rwanda. “Make Rwanda proud and always work together for the common good of our homeland,” Kimonyo said. “You should take advantage of the current opportunities in Rwanda in terms of jobs, education, trade and investment opportunities.” So far, Kimonyo, has spoken to Rwandans from New York, New Jersey, Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania.
