The Kicukiro primary court slapped a fine of Rwf1million to Moise Emmanuel Bagirishya the driver who was involved in the accident that led to the death of a local journalist John Williams Ntwali. Ntwali was an editor attached to local media outlets. Court found Bagirishya guilty of involuntary manslaughter and involuntary cause of bodily harm. ALSO READ: Local journalist dies in a car accident During the trial hearing which took place on January 31, Bagirishya pledged guilty and apologised for the accident after his car hit a motorcycle carrying Ntwali on the night of January 18, at 02:50a.m in Kicukiro District. Bagirishya confessed to over-speeding and told the court that he was tired and rushing to get home when the accident took place. In reading the verdict, the judge found Bagirishya guilty of two counts and fined him with Rwf 500,000 for each crime. Previously, the prosecution had requested the court of a two-sentence and a fine of Rwf 2 million. According to the law any person found guilty of involuntary manslaughter is sentenced to imprisonment from six months to two years and a fine of Rwf 500,000 to Rwf 2 million or only one of these punishments.
