Ivory Coast jets in for African continental cycling champs

African Continental cycling championship November 9-14 November 10 Elite Men’s Team time trial (40km) November 12 Individual Elite Women Time Trial (17,2km)U-23 Men’s Elite Time Trial (33km) November 14 Women’s Elite Road race (5laps-60km)Men’s Elite road race (12laps-144km) IF the idiom ‘the early bird catches the worm is anything to go by,’ then Ivory Coast will be bracing themselves for a successful effort in next week’s Africa Continental Cycling Championship. The international event will run from November 9-14 in Kigali. The West Africans jetted in yesterday, a whole five days before the competition to acclimatize with the weather and terrain of the route. Over 120 elite cyclists from 20 countries are expected to grace the prestigious five-day event. Africa’ top cycling nations like South Africa, Morocco, Eriteria, Egypt, Libya, Gabon, and Bukina Faso are also in the fray. The Executive Secretary of the National Cycling Federation, Emmanuel Murenzi, yesterday, revealed that most of the other teams would arrive over the weekend.“We expect more teams to arrive in the next few days. By Monday, all teams will be in the country,” he said. Namibia’s Dan Craven was the first to arrive and even took part in the Tour of Kigali where he finished third behind Gasore Hategeka and eventual winner Adrien Niyonshuti.
