SOUTHERN PROVINCE MUHANGA — Residents of Nyarusange sector have committed to disclose the whereabouts of remains of all Genocide victims ahead of the April moarning week. Claude Muhire, the Sector executive secretary said this while resting remains of ten Genocide victims at the Nyamabuye memorial site on Monday. The bodies were excavated by residents since April last year. Genocide criminals who were released recently have played a key role in discovering the sites where the victims had been buried. Unspecified victims, residents say, are yet to be discovered as many of them were killed and reportedly dumped into Nyabarongo stream. Muhire said efforts to discover the remains were futile until recently when the community resolved to work with Genocide criminals in order to help in identifying the locations. “The residents have worked with freed Genocide criminals to excavate ten bodies and they have been open on information about the shallow graves where the victims had been buried,” Muhire said. He added: “The community has taken strong zeal to fight the existing Genocide ideology since our visit to Gisozi memorial site, where many leaders were able to learn more information on genocide.” The number of those re-buried in the area has risen to 200 remains and residents are proactive in a bid to have all the bodies excavated and reburied before the April memorial week. Like Muhanga district, the area also lacks a decent burial site for all Genocide victims, but sector leaders say plans are underway to construct one. Ends
