Makuza invites Chinese investors to come to Rwanda

SHANGHAI - Prime Minister Bernard Makuza has encouraged Chinese investors to tap into the business opportunities in Rwanda by investing in critical sectors. He made the call Sunday, as he joined the Rwandan community in Shanghai, China to celebrate the country’s 16th anniversary of the Liberation Day. During the event, which was held at the grounds of the ongoing World Expo that is underway in China, several speakers applauded the Rwandan government for its tremendous achievements over the past 16 years.Rwanda maintains a pavilion at the expo. Makuza cited agriculture, infrastructure, energy and tourism as some of the sectors that the Chinese should invest in. In his remarks, Li Rongrong, the Chinese government representative who also chairs the State-Owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, hailed the country’s great economic achievements. Under the theme “Kigali City, the Heart of Economic Prosperity of a Nation Reborn”, the Rwanda pavilion is among the African stands at the Expo that is attracting large numbers of visitors. An in-door cultural performance by the National Ballet, Urukerereza, thrilled the crowd. The 2010 World Expo was officially launched on May 1, 2010 and will last for 6 months. 246 Countries and International Organizations are participating, with almost all the African countries taking part. The Prime Minister also held a meeting with Rwandans living in China. Ends
