Al Merrikh SC have surprisingly sacked head coach Darko Novic, just hours after helping the club to an emphatic 3-0 victory over Etoile de l'Est on Sunday. The Sudanese club on Sunday produced a commanding display to defeat Etoile de l'Est 3-0, a result lifted them to third place on the league table standings. However, the result didn't stop the club management from making a change in the technical department, bringing an abrupt end to Novic's tenure. The club leadership reportedly had considered sacking Novic after he failed to qualify them for the CAF Champions League group stage. The Serbian tactician joined Al Merrikh in 2025 after leaving Rwandan club APR FC. Al Merrikh have yet to officially name a successor, but attention will now shift to who takes charge of the Sudanese giants as they look to maintain their strong position in the league. Novic becomes the latest high-profile coaching casualty in African football, where expectations remain high and managerial changes can occur regardless of recent results.Darko Novic
