Rwanda Energy Group (REG) head coach Benon Mugisha remains confident his team can return to winning ways when they face Gisagara VC on Saturday, despite losing two of their opening three Rwanda Volleyball League matches. The defending champions have won once, against Kigali Volleyball Club (KVC), but suffered defeats to APR VC and East African University Rwanda (EAUR), both in tie-breaks. REG face third-placed Gisagara at Gisagara Gymnasium at 4:30 p.m. in one of the weekend’s key fixtures as the league enters its fourth week. Mugisha, however, insists his team is not intimidated by the challenge, despite playing away from home and missing middle blocker Emmy Twagirayezu, who is expected to be sidelined for two weeks with a finger injury. “We are the defending champions, which means other clubs are working hard to neutralise us and mark our key players. But we are not afraid. Although Twagirayezu is unavailable, we have other options who can also contribute to our objective, which is to win against Gisagara,” he told Times Sport. In Twagirayezu’s absence, REG could turn to Sam Engwau and Peacemaker Twagirayezu as alternative options in the middle-blocking position. Gisagara currently sit third with seven points, behind second-placed Police VC and league leaders APR VC. Saturday’s programme features four men’s matches, with RP-Ngoma taking on APR VC, Police VC facing Kigali Volleyball Club and Kirehe VC meeting EAUR.
