In 2022, Rwanda experienced a huge boost in the art of creating visuals with great music video directors who have been doing marvelously well, and continue to contribute to the increased growth of the music industry. Born Bertrand Gatete, the 26-year-old has carved a niche as one of the best video producers in Rwanda after creating visuals for hit songs like ‘Confirm’ by Confy, ‘Kantona’ by DJ Pyfo, and Bwiza’s ‘Exchange’ among others.This year, the young director won a Gold Telly Award, becoming the first Rwandan producer and only African video director to win the category, among 10 other producers across Africa.He started making films in 2016 and later joined the University Of Nile Source Polytechnic Of Applied Arts where he graduated in filmmaking and digital media.GadGad Nshimiyimana’s eye for video production is unique and many discovered his talent after the release of ‘Muzadukumbura’, Nel Ngabo, and Fireman’s track that he directed this year.Nshimiyimana, 28, started his filming career in covering weddings, festivals, and concerts until he decided to produce videos.He rose to stardom in 2022 after producing ‘Mutuale’ by Bruce Melodie and Nel Ngabo, a move that secured more gigs with renowned local artistes.Nshimiyimana has made videos for other hits such as ‘Good Luck’ by Ariel Wayz, ‘Akinyuma’ by Bruce Melody, ‘Tbora’ by Knowless, and others.Eazy CutsYou have certainly seen the words ‘Directed by Eazy Cuts’ in many Rwandan videos released this year. Eloi Ihirwe, best known as Eazy Cuts, is one of the top video directors, and his art speaks for itself.This year, Eazy Cuts has directed numerous music videos for various artistes including Afrique’s ‘My Boo’, ‘Big Time’ by Yvan Buravan, ‘Loyal’ by Juno Kizigenza, and ‘Kucyaro’ by Mistaek, among many others.Eazy Cut is also the founder of Big Team Production.Cedric DricCedrick Karemangingo, aka Cedric Dric, is regarded as one of the best video directors that Rwanda has in its ranks, having worked with different music superstars, concert organisers, and established institutions.Karemangingo who is also the founder of Dric Ent produced some of the best hits of 2022 including ‘No’ by Okkama and ‘Gumako’ by Theecember, which is considered one of the best videos produced in Rwanda this year.He also worked with big names including Meddy, The Ben, Knowless, Israel Mbonyi, and big names on the continent like Burna Boy, Ya Levis, Malick Berry, Fally Ipupa, Sauti Sol, Patoranking, and many others.Chris EazyEazy Films, the video production company founded by Christian Rukundo Nsengimana, popularly known as Chris Eazy, is one of the most popular music video makers of 2022.He is famous for songs such as ‘Inana’, ‘Amashu’, and ‘Basi Sori’, among others, and also produced and directed their videos.Apart from making music videos, he has also worked with other artistes including Vestina and Dorcas in ‘Nzakomora’, and ‘Briana’ by Niyo Bosco, and others.Bernard BagenziBernard Bagenzi has been working in music video production for over 14 years and was one of the most popular and sought-after video directors of 2022.Bagenzi, who runs the incredible record label that manages Davis D and Kevin Kade, is also the brains behind the videos of most of the songs they produce.This year, his name appeared on songs including ‘Boyfriend’ and ‘Go Crazy’ by Davis D, ‘Tiana’, ‘Nana’ by Kevin Kade, and many others.
