The two players played key roles in Police HC’s campaign last season, helping the club reach the final of the Rwanda Men’s Handball Championship playoffs. According to sources familiar with the deals, APR tabled an attractive package to secure the services of the duo. The proposed contracts are reportedly for two years, with each player set to earn a monthly salary of Rwf1.5 million and receive an Rwf8 million signing-on fee. Their arrival comes as APR prepares to represent Rwanda at the African Club Championship in Angola. The tournament starts today in Luanda, with APR drawn in Group A alongside Cameroonian side FAP, Benin’s Flowers HBC and hosts Petro Atlético of Angola. The recruitment of Kubwimana and Kayijamahe gives APR additional options as they seek to make a strong impression on the continental stage. Kayijamahe’s pace on the left flank could provide APR with another outlet in transition, while Kubwimana’s experience in the centre of the backcourt could prove valuable against physically demanding opposition. APR won the Rwanda Men’s Handball Championship last season after a dramatic playoff campaign, earning the right to represent the country at the continental tournament. Their participation comes after Police HC made history at the 2025 African Club Championship in Casablanca, Morocco, where they recorded their first-ever victories in the competition before reaching the quarter-finals. APR will now look to build on that progress and show that Rwanda’s leading clubs can compete more consistently at continental level.
