From soul-crushing cubicles to corporate collapses and unexpected promotions from above, some of Hollywood's funniest comedies have found humour in the lives of ordinary workers pushed to breaking point. If you are looking for something light to watch over the weekend, these six films offer a mix of satire, slapstick and heart, with unlikely heroes trying to make it through the chaos of work and life. Here are six workplace comedies worth adding to your watchlist. Fun With Dick and Jane When the company he works for collapses overnight, a newly promoted executive is left jobless and broke, and he and his wife turn to armed robbery to keep up their comfortable suburban life. Jim Carrey, Téa Leoni and Alec Baldwin star in the 2005 comedy, directed by Dean Parisot. A remake of a 1977 film, it takes aim at corporate greed, with the couple's increasingly clumsy heists driving most of the laughs. Office Space A bored software worker, fed up with his job and his boss, is hypnotised into a state of total indifference and decides to stop caring, before he and his co-workers plot to get back at the company. Ron Livingston, Jennifer Aniston, Stephen Root and Gary Cole star in the 1999 comedy, directed by Mike Judge. It did modest business in cinemas but grew into a cult favourite, with its jabs at cubicle life still resonating with office workers today. Date Night A tired married couple from New Jersey try to spice up their routine with a fancy dinner in Manhattan, only to be mistaken for someone else and dragged into a night of chases, crooks and close calls. Steve Carell and Tina Fey lead the 2010 comedy, directed by Shawn Levy, with Mark Wahlberg, Mark Ruffalo and James Franco in supporting roles. The chemistry between the leads keeps the mistaken-identity plot moving at a brisk pace. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty A quiet magazine employee who escapes into elaborate daydreams is forced into real adventure when a prized photo negative goes missing, sending him from New York to Iceland and beyond to track down a elusive photographer. Ben Stiller, who also directed, stars alongside Kristen Wiig, Sean Penn and Shirley MacLaine in the 2013 film. Loosely based on a James Thurber short story, it is part comedy, part travelogue, with sweeping landscapes doing much of the heavy lifting. Bruce Almighty When a frustrated TV reporter in Buffalo complains that God is doing a poor job, he is handed the divine powers for a week and quickly learns that running the universe is harder than it looks. Jim Carrey, Morgan Freeman and Jennifer Aniston star in the 2003 comedy, directed by Tom Shadyac. Mixing broad physical humour with a gentle message, it became a major box office hit. The Other Guys Two mismatched, desk-bound New York detectives get their chance to shine when the department's star cops fall out of action, leading them into a case that begins with a minor violation and ends in a massive financial scandal. Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg lead the 2010 comedy, directed by Adam McKay, with Eva Mendes, Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson in supporting roles. It blends buddy-cop parody with a pointed look at white-collar crime.
