The national football team, Amavubi, will take on Kenya's Harambee Stars in an international friendly match on October 5 at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali as part of preparations for the ongoing 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. The friendly game comes at a time when confidence is high within the Amavubi camp following an impressive run of results, including a 2-1 away victory over Cape Verde and a 3-1 victory at home over Liberia. Amavubi currently sit on top of Group K of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers with six points from two games. The victory over Cape Verde was particularly significant, earning Rwanda 18.15 FIFA ranking points and boosting the team's prospects of making a major leap in the next FIFA World Rankings. Rwanda could climb nine places from 128th to 119th in the world rankings, a position the country last occupied in 2017. The upcoming game Vs Kenya will provide the head coach and his technical team with another opportunity to assess the squad before the next round of AFCON qualifying fixtures.
