Zimbabwean Benjamin Lock secured a place in the quarterfinals of the Rwanda Open Kigali M25 after edging fifth seed Toufik Sahtali in straight sets in the second round on Thursday. The wildcard entrant produced a strong performance to defeat the Algerian 6-4, 6-4 at the RP Kigali/Kicukiro Ecology Tennis Club. Lock is one of two African players who advanced to the quarterfinals. South African Alec Beckley also progressed after beating Belgian Niklas Grunewald 6-3, 6-2. Beckley will face top seed Max Houkes in the quarterfinals after the Dutchman defeated Burundian prospect Allan Gatoto 6-2, 6-1. Elsewhere, third seed Calvin Hemery defeated Rodrigo Alujas 6-1, 6-4 to book his place in the last eight. Indian Dev Javia overcame American Preston Brown 6-3, 7-6(6), while second seed Florent Bax cruised past Indian Caheer Warik 6-1, 6-2. Israeli Yshai Oliel also advanced after defeating Marlon Vankan 6-4, 6-4, while Manuel Plunger outplayed three-time M25 Kigali winner Corentin Denolly 6-4, 6-0. Plunger and Denolly then switched from singles rivals to doubles teammates, teaming up to beat Louis Van Heck and Marlon Vankan 6-2, 6-1.
