Rwanda’s growing digital economy is creating opportunities for businesses to use artificial intelligence (AI) and personalised rewards to strengthen customer relationships, as global loyalty and rewards platform Xoxoday steps up its focus on the market. At the centre of its offering is Xoxoday’s GEN AI Customer Rewards solution, which uses AI-driven capabilities to help businesses personalise customer engagement, analyse behaviour and deliver more relevant rewards and experiences. The company has started actively promoting its loyalty and rewards solutions in Rwanda, targeting businesses in banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI), telecommunications, retail and Customer sectors. “We are already engaging with the market and expect, very soon, to see key BFSI companies and banks collaborating with us,” said Roshaan Kulpoo, Xoxoday’s Vice-President for Africa. Its solutions include Loyalife, which provides loyalty management capabilities, and PLUM, a rewards marketplace offering different types of incentives. Businesses can use points, vouchers, discounts, experiences and other rewards rather than relying on a single mechanism. For banks and fintechs, such programmes can support card activation, transaction frequency, digital adoption, customer retention and cross-selling. How AI is changing customer loyalty AI is moving loyalty programmes from largely transactional systems towards more personalised engagement, according to Kulpoo. Instead of offering every customer the same incentive, businesses can use AI to analyse behavioural patterns and identify rewards, offers or experiences that may be more relevant to individual customers. For example, Kulpoo said, a bank could identify customers whose transaction frequency is declining and offer personalised rewards or merchant deals intended to encourage re-engagement. AI can also support customer segmentation, campaign optimisation, reward recommendations and measurement of campaign effectiveness. Opportunities for Rwandan businesses Xoxoday sees potential applications across several sectors. For banks, these include increasing card usage and transaction frequency, driving digital banking adoption, rewarding customer milestones and engaging affluent and priority customers. Banks could also use merchant-funded offers, cashback-style campaigns and referral programmes. For telecommunications companies, the solutions can support recharge and usage-based rewards, customer retention, adoption of data and digital services, personalised campaigns and merchant partnerships. Retailers and other businesses could use digital vouchers, instant rewards, promotional campaigns and referral programmes to attract and retain customers. The platform also supports employee and channel-partner incentives, experiences and merchant-funded rewards. These represent potential applications of Xoxoday’s technology rather than confirmed programmes already operating in Rwanda.
