Rwandan actor and comedian Gratien Niyitegeka, popularly known as Papa Sava, has announced October 5 as the official release date for his new television series, Ibishoboka Byose. Produced in partnership with Zacu Entertainment, the series follows the story of Timoteyo, a young man whose plans to marry are put on hold after financial difficulties force him to drop out of school before completing his studies. ALSO READ: How ‘Papa Sava’ creator has kept his storytelling alive for three decades Timoteyo later meets Nikita, an intelligent young woman whose education is also cut short after an accident claims the lives of her wealthy parents, leaving their property up for auction. Amid the upheaval, Nikita finds herself living in the same house as Timoteyo. The two eventually decide to work together to overcome their hardships. They later secure jobs and begin to rebuild their lives. However, their situation takes a difficult turn when Nikita’s employer pressures her to enter into a sexual relationship with him. Faced with the prospect of losing her job and returning to poverty, Nikita must decide whether to give in to her employer’s demands or reject them and risk losing her source of income. The dilemma forms a central part of the series as viewers follow Nikita’s difficult choice and its consequences. The cast includes Murerwa Clear, who plays Nikita and is known for her role in the film Indoto, while Saranda plays Sandrine. Both actors previously appeared in Indoto. Other cast members include Landlord, known for playing Hatungi in Papa Sava, as well as D’Amour Seleman, Nyabitanga and Madudu, who has also appeared in Papa Sava. The first episodes will premiere on October 5 at 7pm and will air Monday to Friday at the same time on Zacu TV. Ibishoboka Byose follows What a Day, another series recently released by Niyitegeka that is currently being submitted to and screened at various film festivals. Niyitegeka told The New Times that the new series was carefully produced to entertain audiences while also delivering important lessons. Niyitegeka is one of Rwanda’s most recognisable actors and entertainers, with a career spanning nearly three decades across theatre, poetry, music and film. He has built a large following through popular characters such as Papa Sava, Seburikoko and Sekaganda, while using comedy and storytelling to explore social and cultural issues. His productions, particularly Papa Sava, have reached wide audiences on television and digital platforms, cementing his place as one of the prominent figures in Rwanda’s creative industry.
