Six people were killed and six others injured in a road accident involving a truck and a coaster in Bwishyuhura Sector, Karongi District, on Friday, September 11. The accident occurred at around 2:30pm when a truck heading to Karongi collided with a coaster travelling from Karongi, according to Emmanuel Kayigi, spokesperson for Traffic Police. ALSO READ: Nine killed, 13 injured in Kamonyi accident Kayigi told The New Times that the truck was attempting to manoeuvre around a corner past another vehicle when it collided with the coaster, causing both vehicles to fall off the road. “Six people died at the scene, while six others, including the coaster driver, were injured and taken to Kibuye Hospital for treatment,” he said. He said the truck driver fled the scene following the accident, but police were working to locate and apprehend him. Kayigi urged road users to exercise caution and avoid making rushed decisions while driving.
