Rayon Sports forward Junior Herman Kameni has warned his teammates that “nothing is decided yet” despite returning to Kigali with a crucial draw against Panthère Sportive du Ndé in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup first preliminary-round tie. Panthère du Ndé took the lead in the 13th minute when Valentin Beo Batto stunned the visitors with a spectacular overhead kick. Kameni then came to Rayon’s rescue late in the game, heading home the equaliser to help the Rwandan side secure a 1-1 draw at Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé on Friday. Although the result gives Rayon a boost ahead of the return fixture, Kameni stressed that qualification remains far from guaranteed. “Nothing is decided yet. We’re going to keep working so we can go into the next match in good shape and qualify for the second round,” the Cameroonian forward said after the match. “We still have a lot of work ahead of us, and we’ll work hard to win at home.” Kameni admitted that Rayon struggled to settle in the early stages but praised the team’s determination to recover and fight back. “We started off a bit tense. We had to regroup. We must remember that we are a very good team, even though there are moments like that,” he said. “The most important thing is being able to bounce back and make amends.” The forward also acknowledged the quality of Panthère, saying the result reflected the competitiveness of the encounter. “It’s true that Panthère is a very good team. We must give them credit because they showed just how tough the match was. But we managed to bounce back and show what Rayon Sports is all about.” Kameni identified lapses in concentration, particularly in ball control and passing, as areas Rayon must improve before the second leg. “We had a slight concentration issue with our ball control and passing. We know we can do better, and we’ll continue working on that.” Rayon Sports will host Panthère Sportive du Ndé in the second leg in Kigali on September 12.
