Rwanda’s formal sector industrial output increased by 6.6 per cent in July 2026 compared with the same month last year, driven by growth across mining, manufacturing, electricity, and water and waste management, according to the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR). NISR's latest Index of Industrial Production report shows that the annual average growth rate stood at 6.4 per cent in July. ALSO READ: June industrial output climbs 6.2% on manufacturing growth The index tracks monthly changes in industrial output in Rwanda’s formal sector, covering businesses registered with tax authorities. NISR excludes construction from the index because of data limitations. Manufacturing recorded the strongest year-on-year growth, increasing by 49.2 per cent, followed by electricity at 18.5 per cent and water and waste management at 12.6 per cent. Mining and quarrying output increased by 4.7 per cent. ALSO READ: Industrial output records 6.5% annual growth NISR said the increase in manufacturing was mainly supported by food processing, non-metallic mineral products, and metal products, machinery and equipment. Food processing increased by 6.1 per cent, while production of non-metallic mineral products rose by 8.9 per cent. Manufacturing of metal products, machinery and equipment increased by 3.5 per cent. However, not all manufacturing activities recorded growth. Production of beverages and tobacco declined by 1.9 per cent, while textiles, clothing and leather goods fell by 0.5 per cent. ALSO READ: Rwanda’s industrial output rises 6.2% in March Manufacturing accounts for 68.1 per cent of the industrial production index, making it the largest component of the sector. Electricity accounts for 12.8 per cent, mining and quarrying 15.8 per cent, and water and waste management 3.3 per cent. The overall industrial production index rose 3.6 per cent compared with June 2026, while the annual average growth rate stood at 6.3 per cent, according to NISR.
