The hosts started brightly and eventually broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute when Pacifique Tuyisenge finished clinically to put Amagaju ahead. Sunrise responded with greater attacking intent but found Amagaju well organised defensively. Amagaju then sealed the victory in stoppage time when goalkeeper Nicholas Ssebwato scored in the fourth minute of added time to secure a 2-0 win. The result gave Amagaju their first three points of the season and temporarily sent them to the top of the table on goal difference. Elsewhere, Etincelles FC and Rutsiro FC played out a goalless draw at Umuganda Stadium in a match that produced few clear-cut scoring opportunities.
