Rwanda secured a place in the semifinals of the 2026 African Women’s National Volleyball Championship after defeating Ghana in four sets (25-17, 24-26, 25-19, 25-18) at Kasarani Indoor Arena in Nairobi on Tuesday. Rwanda made a strong start in the opening set, building an eight-point lead at 13-5. Monster blocks from middle blocker Donatha Musabyemaliya and opposite hitter Aloysie Tuyishime helped Rwanda maintain control before they closed out the set 25-17. Ghana responded strongly in the second set, making adjustments to their defence and ball setting that paid dividends as they fought their way back into the match. A substitution by Rwanda coach Frédéric Guérin proved costly when he replaced Musabyemaliya with Flavia Dusabe. Ghana immediately took the lead, but their advantage did not last long as Munezero produced two consecutive positive attacks to keep Rwanda in contention. The two teams then traded points, reaching 24-24, before a negative attack from Munezero handed Ghana the set 26-24 and levelled the match. Guérin responded in the third set by restoring Musabyemaliya to the lineup, and Rwanda quickly regained control. Musabyemaliya and Tuyishime led the charge, scoring five and four points respectively as Rwanda pulled away to win the set 25-19. Rwanda maintained the momentum in the fourth set, with middle blocker Hope Musaniwabo producing the decisive point to seal a 25-18 win and a 3-1 victory overall. Tuyishime finished with a team-high 22 points and was named Player of the Game for her outstanding performance. Rwanda will face the winner of the quarterfinal between Tunisia and Egypt in the semifinals on Thursday, September 3.
