Tajdin H. Jaffer, the founder and chairman of Sulfo Rwanda Industries, has died aged 93, his family has confirmed. Jaffer died early Saturday, August 29. He was due to celebrate his 94th birthday in December. Jaffer founded Sulfo Rwanda in 1962, alongside Khatun Jaffer, building it into one of Rwanda’s largest fast-moving consumer goods manufacturers. The company’s manufacturing operations in Kigali produce a range of household and personal-care products, including laundry and toilet soaps, detergents, cosmetics, packaged drinking water and other products. “With profound sadness, we announce the passing of a remarkable leader and the founder of a legacy that continues to inspire generations,” his family said. Jaffer was also described as “a visioner leader, a selfless mentor”. “His vision, integrity, and unwavering commitment laid the foundation of Sulfo Rwanda Industries and touched the lives of thousands. His legacy will forever remain in our hearts, and in the journey he began,” his family added. No further details about his death had been released by the time of publication. His family told The New Times that it was preparing a detailed statement.
