Huye Stadium is expected to reopen in early September once renovation works are completed, the Rwanda Housing Authority (RHA) has said. The upgrade includes the installation of an artificial turf pitch and an improved drainage system. The reopening was delayed beyond the initial August 16 deadline due to technical adjustments. ALSO READ: Why Huye Stadium renovation took longer than expected Alphonse Rukaburandekwe, Director General of RHA, said unforeseen technical challenges caused the delay but assured that the facility would soon be ready. “We encountered technical challenges that delayed completion beyond August 16, but we have reached an agreement with the contractor to have the pitch ready in early September,” Rukaburandekwe said. “It will be fully completed and ready for use.” ALSO READ: Renovation at Huye Stadium to be completed in February 2026 The temporary closure of the stadium significantly affected local club Mukura Victory Sports, both financially and competitively, during the past season, according to the club’s Managing Director, Protais Musoni. Musoni said the club lost nearly Rwf40 million in gate receipts, while fan attendance dropped sharply after the team was forced to play its home matches at alternative venues. “Our matchday attendance dropped by roughly 70 percent, and our overall performance suffered because we were using a venue where we lacked home advantage,” Musoni said. “Losing our gate collection revenue was a major setback.” With the 2026/27 Rwanda Premier League season approaching, the timely reopening of Huye Stadium would provide Mukura V.S. with a much-needed boost, beginning with their fixture against Gasogi United.
