The Governor of Northern Province, Maurice Mugabowagahunde, has urge young people to shun gambling, excessive alcohol consumption, and other addictive habits in favor of innovation to drive sustainable development. Mugabowagahunde emphasized that young people cannot achieve meaningful progress unless they apply practical skills to their lives. Youth should work hard and be innovative, he said at opening of Northern Province Expo, which is being held in Musanze District. They must overcome the fear of starting. They have great ideas. All they need to do is package those ideas into viable projects. The local government is always ready to support them. I urge them to work hard because true success comes from effort and hard work. You cannot expect to build wealth through gambling or persistent drinking. That is why I encourage young people to learn from the experiences of others, Mugabowagahunde said. Visiting the exhibition stands offers direct insight into what others are achieving. He added that sustainable development relies on adopting new technologies, which are becoming increasingly essential across all business sectors. When young people leverage technology, their ideas move faster and their projects scale more efficiently, he said, noting that parts of the province, particularly Musanze District, serve as vital hubs for tourism, agriculture, and emerging digital solutions. That is why we are integrating technology into everything we do. Theonas Tugengwanayo, Chairperson of the Private Sector Federation (PSF) in Northern Province, noted that this year’s expo features several key innovations, with exhibitors highlighting tech-driven and research-backed projects. Exhibitors are showcasing technologies designed to simplify daily life, alongside research projects tailored to address regional challenges and support national development, Tugengwanayo said. Since students are currently on holiday, this platform gives young people a chance to learn from these innovations rather than viewing the expo purely as entertainment. Touring these venues and gaining firsthand exposure to tech-driven businesses inspires us, Umwali said. It helps us align what we learn in school with actual market demands. She added that access to facilities and opportunities that support youth entrepreneurship must continue to expand across the region.
