Rwandan midfielder Bonheur Mugisha has made history by becoming the first Rwandan footballer to compete in the Saudi Pro League, following his debut for Al-Hazem on Thursday, August 13. The game ended in a 2-1 victory for Al-Hazem over Abha FC, with Mugisha delivering an impressive performance in midfield and playing a key role in his team's success. Al-Hazem could not have asked for a better start. Just three minutes into the match, Abdulaziz Al-Dhuwayhi capitalised on an early attacking move to put the visitors ahead, silencing the home crowd and giving Al-Hazem an early advantage. The goal allowed the team to settle into the game and dictate the tempo. With Mugisha helping to control possession and link up play in midfield, Al-Hazem continued to push forward. Their pressure was rewarded in the 40th minute when Ahmed Al-Shamrani doubled the lead. The goal came after a well-worked attacking move, giving Al-Hazem a comfortable 2-0 cushion heading into the halftime break. Abha responded after the interval and managed to pull one back in the 63rd minute through Mohammad Al-Dawsari. Speaking after the debut, Mugisha expressed his delight at achieving such a significant milestone. It is a proud moment for me, my family, and the entire football community in Rwanda,” he noted. Mugisha also called on young Rwandan footballers to remain ambitious. I want young players in Rwanda to believe that hard work, discipline, and determination can take them anywhere. I hope many more Rwandan footballers will come and play at this level in the future.
