The Ministry of Defence and Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) briefed defence attaches accredited to the country on regional and international security developments, as well as the RDF’s ongoing peace support operations.

The briefing was held on Tuesday, August 11, as part of regular engagements with the diplomatic defence community.

During the session, Brig Gen Patrick Karuretwa, the Director General of International Military Cooperation and Defence Spokesperson, said the engagements are intended to promote greater understanding between Rwanda and its international partners on security matters.

"Beyond providing an overview of the security situation, these engagements allow us to explain and clarify Rwanda’s perspectives on issues of mutual interest,” said Karuretwa.

"They facilitate a better understanding between our defence institutions and the countries you represent.”

The briefing brought together defence attaches and representatives from Angola, Brazil, China, Denmark, Egypt, Germany, India, Japan, Jordan, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Senegal, Tanzania, Türkiye, Uganda, the United Kingdom and the United States, as well as the European Union.

The session provided an opportunity for the defence representatives to engage directly with the ministry and RDF officials on Rwanda’s operational priorities and its strategic outlook on regional stability.

The discussions also focused on ongoing peace support operations by the RDF in foreign countries.

The ministry said the engagement is part of efforts to maintain open and consistent communication with the defence community, allowing for the exchange of information and perspectives on developments affecting national, regional and global security.

The ministry also acknowledged the community of defence attachés accredited to Rwanda as vital partners in strengthening defence-to-defence relations, enhancing mutual trust and advancing practical military cooperation between Rwanda and its international partners.
