Rwanda international Gilbert Mugisha is on the verge of joining Botswana Premier League side Jwaneng Galaxy after receiving an invitation from the club to finalize personal terms and sign a reported two-year contract. The former APR FC winger left Kigali on Saturday aboard a RwandAir flight, travelling via South Africa to Botswana, where he is expected to complete the move. The transfer would see Mugisha reunite with Belgian coach Ivan Minnaert, who recently took charge of Jwaneng Galaxy after leaving Ugandan champions Vipers SC. Mugisha, 30, became a free agent after his contract with APR FC expired in June. During his spell with the army side, he played a key role in helping the club win several domestic honours, including the 2025/26 Rwanda Premier League title and the Peace Cup. His expected arrival comes as Jwaneng Galaxy rebuild under Minnaert, a coach with extensive experience across African football and a track record of winning league titles in both North and East Africa. Minnaert has described his appointment at Galaxy as an exciting new chapter in his coaching career, with Mugisha's signing potentially becoming one of his first major additions to the squad. The Belgian tactician will be tasked with leading Galaxy's challenge for the Botswana Premier League title after the club finished runners-up last season, five points behind champions Gaborone United. Jwaneng Galaxy have established themselves as one of Botswana's leading and most ambitious clubs in recent years. The club also secured a place in the CAF Confederation Cup after winning the domestic FA Cup.
