Rayon Sports head coach Francis Haringingo has vowed to do everything possible to end the club’s 28-year wait for the CECAFA Kagame Cup when the Blues take on Kenya’s Gor Mahia in the final on Friday at Amahoro Stadium. Haringingo made the promise after guiding Rayon Sports to a convincing 3-1 victory over South Sudan’s Jamus FC in the semi-finals, a result that secured their place in the title decider and extended his impressive run against foreign opposition. The Burundian tactician described the semi-final as one of Rayon Sports’ most demanding matches of the tournament, praising his players for their discipline and mental strength. “Jamus FC is a very strong team. I think it was one of the toughest matches we have played,” Haringingo said after the match. “What we did was talk to the players and prepare them mentally so that we could reach the final, and they responded very well.” Now, the focus shifts to Gor Mahia, a side equally desperate to end a lengthy drought in the regional competition. While acknowledging the quality of their opponents, Haringingo insists Rayon Sports will leave everything on the pitch in pursuit of a sixth CECAFA Kagame Cup title. “Gor Mahia is a big club and a very good team, so it will be a difficult match,” he said. “They are also hungry for this trophy. They have gone 41 years without winning it, and we have gone 28 years. Those are many years for clubs of our stature, he added. The coach expects a fiercely contested encounter between two clubs. “It will be an entertaining game because both teams want to win. We will play well and give everything we have to keep the trophy home,” Haringingo added.
