June industrial output climbs 6.2% on manufacturing growth

Formal industrial output increased by 6.2 per cent in June 2026 compared to the same month last year, driven largely by strong growth in manufacturing, according to the latest Index of Industrial Production (IIP) released by the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR). ALSO READ: Industrial output records 6.5% annual growth The report released on Tuesday, August 4, shows that manufacturing output rose by 21.5 per cent year-on-year, while electricity production increased by 16.5 per cent, water and waste management grew by 11.3 per cent, and mining and quarrying expanded by 6.9 per cent. Manufacturing, which accounts for 68.1 per cent of Rwanda's industrial production, was the largest contributor to the overall increase. Within the sector, growth was supported by higher production of food products, beverages and tobacco, as well as chemicals, rubber and plastic products. On a month-on-month basis, however, the overall industrial production index fell by 1.9 per cent from May to June. Manufacturing output declined by 2.7 per cent during the month, while electricity production dropped by 2 per cent and water and waste management edged down by 0.9 per cent. Mining and quarrying were the only major sector to record monthly growth, rising by 37.4 per cent.
