Jamus SC midfielder Kevin Muhire insists the South Sudanese champions are determined to maintain their winning momentum when they face Tanzanian giants Simba SC in the CECAFA Kagame Cup on Tuesday evening.
The Group B fixture will be played at Kigali Pelé Stadium, with Jamus aiming to strengthen their position at the top of the group while Simba search for their first victory of the tournament.
Simba began their campaign with a frustrating goalless draw against Somalia’s Mogadishu City Club, while Jamus made a strong start by collecting all three points in their opening match to move to the summit of Group B.
Although Simba remain among the favourites to win the tournament, Muhire believes Jamus have what it takes to compete against any team in the competition.
"We respect Simba. Although they haven’t started the tournament well, that makes them even more dangerous. We know they are a competitive team, but we came here with the ambition of winning every match,” Muhire said during a pre-match press conference on Monday.
The former Rayon Sports captain acknowledged the challenge awaiting Jamus but stressed that his team has the confidence and determination to take on the Tanzanian giants.
"Simba is one of the biggest clubs in the region, but we are not afraid. We respect them, but we also believe in ourselves.”
Jamus head coach Saber Ben Jabria has built a side that combines physical strength with tactical discipline, qualities that were evident in their opening victory.
The South Sudanese champions know that beating Simba would significantly boost their chances of reaching the semi-finals.
Ben Jabria, however, stressed the importance of maintaining focus against a team capable of punishing any mistakes.
"We have prepared well for this match. Simba have experienced players and a strong squad, but football is decided on the pitch. We need to stay organised and play with the same intensity that helped us win our first game,” the coach said.
The encounter presents a fascinating contrast in momentum.
Jamus head into the match full of confidence after collecting maximum points from their opening fixture, while Simba are under pressure to respond after dropping points against Mogadishu City Club.
For Simba, anything less than a victory could leave their qualification hopes hanging in the balance ahead of their final group-stage match.
