As clubs continue preparations for the new football season, several experienced and high-profile Rwandan players remain without teams. Some are former Amavubi internationals, while others have won league titles and represented Rwandan clubs in continental competitions. With the transfer window still open, these players could become valuable additions for clubs looking to strengthen their squads before the transfer window closes. Jean Bosco Ruboneka Ruboneka became a free agent at the end of the season and he has chosen to explore new opportunities elsewhere after turning down a new offer from APR FC which he deemed lower than what he delivers. Reports have linked him with opportunities abroad, but he remains one of the biggest free agents on the market. Emery Bayisenge The experienced center back is another notable player still searching for a new club since his contract with Rayon Sports expired at the end of the 2025/26 season. Times Sport understands that the Rwanda international is in talks with a couple of clubs abroad but no agreement has been reached yet. Bayisenge played for several clubs including Isonga FC, APR FC, AS Kigali, Rayon Sports, Gor Mahia (Kenya), USM Alger (Algeria), Saif SC (Bangladesh) and Police FC. Lague Byiringiro Byiringiro is out of contract since April when he and Police FC mutually agreed to part ways before the season even ended. The pacey winger’s performances for club and country have made him a fan favourite over the years and many supporters are surprised to see him still unattached ahead of the new season. Olivier Kwizera Kwizera is another experienced player yet to secure a club. The shot-stopper has spent many years at the top level and Rayon credit his contribution to successfully winning ticket to the CAF Confederation Cup. Despite his vast experience, Kwizera remains available as clubs finalize their squads. Rayon approached him in an attempt to extend his contract but he opted to go for offers from other clubs but no deal is in place yet. Gilbert Mugisha Mugisha’s spell at APR FC came to an end when his contract expired in June. The Rwandan winger finished the 2025-26 league season without a scoring a goal, a performance that left club coach Adel Abderrahim unimpressed. The club opted against extending his contract, leaving the door to other clubs to seek his services. Claude Niyomugabo The former APR FC captain remains without a club despite being one of the most dependable defenders in Rwandan league in recent seasons. Azam FC were once leading the race for his services but negotiations have reportedly fell through. Pierre Ishimwe Ishimwe was also shown APR’s exit door after his contract came to an end in June. His final season was marred by injuries and at times suspensions due to misconduct. However, he remains one shot stopper that clubs in Rwanda can depend on. Olivier Sefu Niyonzima A familiar name in Rwandan football, Olivier Sefu Niyonzima remains available despite a distinguished career spanning more than a decade. The experienced midfielder had an unimpressive season on his second spell at Rayon Sports and he is now available on the transfer market after the Blues decided to part ways with him at the end of the season.
