South Sudanese side Jamus SC announced their arrival at the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup in style, stunning defending champions Singida Black Stars FC 2-0 in their opening Group B match at Kigali Pelé Stadium on Saturday.

Making their debut in the regional tournament, Jamus, led by skipper Kevin Muhire, delivered a disciplined and clinical performance to upset the Tanzanian Premier League side and claim a memorable victory.

Jamus took the lead after just 10 minutes when Laurent Ramazani capitalised on a scoring opportunity and calmly beat Singida goalkeeper Metacha Mnata.

Singida tried to fight back, with Exauce Sagesse Nzaou and Mathew Tegisi testing the Jamus defence, but they failed to find a breakthrough against a well-organised South Sudanese side.

As Singida pushed forward in search of an equaliser, Jamus sealed the victory deep into stoppage time.

Substitute Mario Taban Cherelino headed home a well-delivered cross from Sebastin Teclar in the fourth minute of added time to make it 2-0 and spark celebrations among the Jamus supporters.

The result sends Jamus to the top of Group B after Simba SC were held to a goalless draw by Somalia’s Mogadishu City Club FC in the other Group B encounter at the same venue.

Simba, who have won the tournament a record six times, entered the match as favourites but struggled to break down a resilient Mogadishu City defence.

The Tanzanian giants enjoyed spells of possession and created several chances but lacked the finishing touch in front of goal.

Mogadishu City, meanwhile, produced a disciplined defensive display, remaining compact throughout the contest to frustrate Simba’s attacking efforts.

The 0-0 draw leaves both teams with one point each in Group B, while defending champions Singida Black Stars sit at the bottom of the group.
