Uganda's Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, arrived in Kigali on Saturday, July 25, for a two-day visit. He was received at Kigali International Airport by the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Mubarak Muganga. During his visit, Gen. Muhoozi is expected to meet President Paul Kagame. This is not Gen. Muhoozi's first visit to Rwanda. He has made several visits over the past few years, including in August 2024 and March 2025. During his August 2024 visit, Gen. Muhoozi held talks with Gen. Muganga on strengthening cooperation between the two countries' armed forces. In March 2022, President Kagame received Gen. Muhoozi, then Commander of the Land Forces of the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF), at Urugwiro Village. The visit formed part of efforts to normalise relations between Rwanda and Uganda after nearly four years of strained ties. The meeting came shortly after Gen. Muhoozi's first official visit to Kigali in January 2022, during which he held a tête-à-tête with President Kagame.
