Brazilian outside hitter Matheus Bettim says his decision to return to Police Volleyball Club ahead of the 2026/27 season was influenced by the family atmosphere at the club, which he says he cannot take for granted. With the transfer window remaining open until October ahead of the new season, the 24-year-old player signed a one-year contract with Police VC, whom he first joined in 2024. ALSO READ: Five free agents headlining Rwandan volleyball transfer window Although Bettim was away from Police, currently coached by Fred Musoni, throughout the 2025/26 season, he returned to reinforce the team at the 2026 African Men's Club Championship. Police were among the four Rwandan clubs that participated in the continental tournament alongside Kepler VC, Rwanda Energy Group (REG) and APR VC. Bettim played a key role as Police made history by becoming the first Rwandan club to reach the final of the African Men's Club Championship. However, their impressive campaign ended with a silver medal after they lost to Egyptian giants Al Ahly in the final. Speaking to Times Sport about why he chose to return to Police despite his impressive performance increasing his demand in the transfer market, Bettim said the club's treatment made him feel like part of a family, making the decision to return an easy one. “Police's offer to me was convincing, but beyond that, they treat me as a family member. Looking at the fact that the Rwandan league is growing rapidly, to win it requires a bonded team that can carry that weight together,” he said.
