Minister of Sports Nelly Mukazayire launches the Mountain Gorilla Rally on Friday

The Mountain Gorilla Rally returns to Kigali today, bringing the sound of revving engines and the excitement of one of Rwanda's biggest motorsport events.

Beyond the racecourse, the city is also preparing for a busy weekend of concerts, DJ sets, social gatherings and cultural experiences.

Whether you're looking for adrenaline, live music or a relaxed afternoon out, these are some of the events worth adding to your plans from July 10 to 12.

Mountain Gorilla Rally

The 2026 Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally, a round of the FIA African Rally Championship, launches this afternoon with free practice, a shakedown and the Qualifying Stage on tarmac loops around the Kigali Convention Centre, meaning the first roar of engines will be audible right in the heart of the city before the cars ever touch gravel.

Basketball keeps the heat up

The Rwanda Basketball League's Men's Division I Second Round resumes at Petit Stade in Remera after a short break, and the fixture list doesn't ease in gently.

Sunday brings three more clashes, closing with REG against Patriots at 8:30 PM, a fixture organisers are calling the weekend's marquee game.

Friday night: three ways in

The city's nightlife wastes no time. Ti'amo Club's Friday Experience kicks off at 8 PMwith a mix of Afrobeat, Amapiano and hip-hop, while Lemon Kigali's Kompa Night, also from 8 PM, trades that energy for the smoother, romantic pull of Haitian Kompa blended with Zouk and Kizomba.

New to Kigali’s nightlife calendar, The Pulse Room debuts at L’Espace on Friday, running from 7 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Organised by the African Pulse Network, the launch pairs live sets from Kenny Mirasano, Bill Ruzima and Delah Dube with short talks on the network's plans to back creative talent across East Africa.

Saturday: tradition meets celebration

Saturday's standout is Iragi Rya Data at Copenhagen Lounge in Kicukiro, billed as "a dialogue between tradition and modernity through music", with Dr Gaspard and Kezi performing live from 8 PM, doors open an hour earlier.

Not far away, Touch Down Lounge throws its biggest night of the year to mark one full year in business, with Rwandan Afrobeat star Kenny Sol headlining from 6 PM until 4 AM, hosted by Muyango with DJs Trick, Lenzo, Bee, One and Willy keeping the floor moving.

Slow down with The White Session

Away from the crowds and high-energy events, The White Session promises a more reflective evening at Views Kigali in Nyarutarama (KG 274 St.).
