Rwanda's football governing body (FERWAFA) has confirmed that clubs competing in the 2026/27 BK Pro League will be required to pay Rwf2 million to register each foreign player. The measure is part of a new set of regulations aimed at standardising player registration and strengthening compliance across the top-flight league. FERWAFA announced that player and coach registration for the upcoming season will be conducted exclusively through the FIFA Connect Registration System. Registration fees will be payable every season and will apply to all players and coaches, including those remaining at their current clubs, renewing their contracts, or joining new teams. The federation said the annual registration requirement dispels the long-held belief that foreign player registration was a one-time payment that remained valid until a player left a club. Under the new fee structure, clubs will pay Rwf5,000 to register each Rwandan player, Rwf2 million for each foreign player, Rwf500,000 for each foreign coach, and Rwf100,000 for each Rwandan coach. Based on their current squads, Rayon Sports will pay Rwf26 million to register their 13 foreign players, while APR FC are expected to pay at least Rwf22 million for 11 foreign players. That figure could increase if the club signs more foreign players before the transfer window closes. Beyond registration fees, clubs must also comply with stricter documentation and player welfare requirements before registrations are approved. Each player must submit a signed and notarised contract, a medical examination report, and proof of valid medical insurance in accordance with FERWAFA regulations. The new framework also reinforces squad composition rules. Clubs may register a maximum of six loan players, with no more than three arriving from the same club. In addition, loan agreements must not exceed one year. To promote youth development, FERWAFA has made it mandatory for every club to field at least three players under the age of 21 in every BK Pro League match throughout the 2026/27 season. The registration windows for the 2026/27 season will run from June 10 to August 30 for the first registration period and January 3 to January 31 for the mid-season transfer window.
