Rwanda signs deal to import petroleum through Tanzania's Port of Tanga

Rwanda National Energy Company (RNEC) and Gulf Bulk Petroleum Tanzania Limited (GBP) on Friday, July 3, signed an agreement to facilitate the importation and storage of bulk refined petroleum products through the Port of Tanga in Tanzania. ALSO READ: Rwanda, Tanzania sign 'strategic' energy deal The Ministry of Trade and Industry said this partnership marks another important milestone in the Rwandan government strategy to utilize both the northern and central corridors, working with regional partners, following recent agreements signed with Kenya to facilitate petroleum imports. Rwanda National Energy Company (RNEC) is a state-owned enterprise responsible for the commercial management of Rwanda's petroleum imports and related energy investments. ALSO READ: Rwanda, Kenya sign deal for petroleum importation through Northern Corridor The company plays a central role in strengthening the country's energy security through strategic petroleum procurement, supply management, and investment in petroleum infrastructure. In May President Paul Kagame and his Tanzanian counterpart Samia Suluhu witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries, aimed at strengthening cooperation in the energy sector. Kagame and Suluhu emphasised the importance of regional cooperation and coordinated investment in addressing Africa’s growing energy demands and supporting long-term industrial development.
