The 2025/26 Rwanda Varsity League reaches its climax this weekend as universities from across the country compete for top honours in football,basketball and volleyball during the finals scheduled for June 27–28 in Huye and Gisagara districts. The competition, which returned in December 2025 after several years of inactivity, has reunited some of Rwanda’s leading higher-learning institutions in a renewed effort to promote university sports. After months of intense competition, champions will finally be crowned across multiple disciplines. Football will headline the weekend’s action at Kamena Stadium in Huye, where Kigali is guaranteed to produce the new champion. East Africa University Rwanda (EAUR) Kigali Campus will face Mount Kigali University (MKU) in Sunday’s final, with kick-off set for 11am. The title match will be preceded by the third-place playoff between EAUR Nyagatare and Rwanda Polytechnic (RP) Gishari on Saturday. Basketball action will shift to the RP Huye courts, where both the men’s and women’s semifinals are scheduled for Saturday. In the men’s category, the University of Technology and Arts of Byumba (UTAB) will face UR Nyarugenge in the first semifinal, while hosts RP Huye take on EAUR Kigali in the second. The winners will advance to Sunday’s final. In the women’s competition, RP Huye will battle Kibogora Polytechnic, while EAUR Kigali face UR Busogo for a place in the championship game. Meanwhile, Gisagara Gymnasium will host the volleyball finals. In the men’s competition, UR Huye will take on UR Nyarugenge in the first semifinal, before UTAB face East African Christian College (EACC) in the second last-four encounter. The winners will progress to Sunday’s title decider. The women’s volleyball title race will feature RP Kigali and UR Remera, while UR Rwamagana and UR Busogo will contest the third-place playoff.
