Miss Rwanda 2016 Jolly Mutesi has given Ugandan musician Moses Ssali, known as Bebe Cool, 48 hours to retract allegations linking her to an online fraud scheme or face legal action. In a legal notice dated June 17, Mbidde & Co. Advocates, representing Mutesi, accuse the singer of publishing defamatory statements on his verified X account alleging that she was involved in scamming activities targeting him in 2025. They argue that Mutesi has “never communicated with or had any dealings with Bebe Cool.” The dispute follows a series of social media posts in which Bebe Cool claimed he was defrauded by someone he believed was Mutesi. He said he became convinced he was speaking with her after what he described as seeing her at an Arsenal match against Manchester United at Emirates Stadium in London on Jan. 12 last year. In posts shared on X, the Ugandan musician published screenshots of a WhatsApp exchange with a UK number he said was linked to Mutesi. The messages, however, contain irregular spelling and grammar, which online users have cited as a common feature of scam communications used to impersonate public figures and pressure targets into financial exchanges. According to the notice, the phone number cited in the alleged scam had previously been flagged as part of impersonation attempts by fraudsters posing as Mutesi online, rather than belonging to her. Someone already posted the number in reply to Mutesi’s tweet back in 2024 to clarify that it belonged to a scammer. Bebe Cool further alleged that the person promised to assist his son in pursuing a football career before allegedly defrauding him. Mutesi’s legal team says the claims ignore earlier public warnings she issued about fake accounts operating in her name. In 2024, she cautioned the public about an account using the name “Akansasira Jolly,” saying it was impersonating her and warning people not to engage with unverified profiles. “I regret that some of my people have become victims. Please be cautious and do not engage with messages from any other unverified accounts,” she said at the time. The legal notice demands that Bebe Cool immediately stop repeating the allegations, issue a public retraction and written apology, disclose the source of his claims and provide a written undertaking confirming compliance within 48 hours. The lawyers warn that failure to comply will leave Mutesi with no option but to pursue defamation proceedings.
