Sixty former Rwanda Patriotic Army (RPA-Inkotanyi) combatants, who were injured during the Liberation Struggle, on Monday, May 25, completed a two-day tour of key historical liberation sites. Organized by Rwanda Demobilisation and Reintegration Commission, the tour was aimed at honoring their sacrifice and preserving the history of Rwanda’s liberation campaign. During the visit, the veterans toured important operational areas that played a significant role in the Liberation War, including Kagitumba on the Rwanda–Uganda border, where the liberation struggle was launched in October 1990, as well as Nyabwishongwezi, Gikoba, Mulindi w’Intwali, and Kaniga. ALSO READ: Military students embark on RPA Liberation War tour The delegation was accompanied by the Chairperson of the Rwanda Demobilisation and Reintegration Commission (RDRC), Valérie Nyirahabineza, and RDRC Vice Chairperson, Maj Gen (Rtd) Jacques Nziza. Speaking during tour, Nyirahabineza thanked President Paul Kagame, Commander-in-Chief of the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), for leading the liberation struggle that brought to an end division, persecution, and the Genocide against the Tutsi, and for rebuilding a united and secure Rwanda. She also commended the wounded veterans for their patriotism, resilience, sacrifice, and fighting spirit, noting that their contribution remains a cornerstone of Rwanda’s peace and stability. They said the tour revived memories of the liberation struggle and reaffirmed that the values they fought for continue to guide Rwanda’s journey toward peace, unity, and progress.
