Saturday, May 23 Men: APR FC 1-1 Rayon Sports (pen. 4-2) Women: Rayon Sports WFC 2-0 Police WFC APR FC retained the Peace Cup after defeating arch-rivals Rayon Sports 4–2 in a penalty shootout in the final held at Amahoro Stadium on Saturday. The victory sealed a domestic double for the army side, who had already secured the Rwanda Premier League title with two games to spare. Both teams battled fiercely for the trophy, with Rayon Sports determined to prevent APR from completing the double. After regulation time ended 1–1, the final was decided on penalties, where APR FC held their nerve. Emery Bayisenge and Didier Mugisha converted their spot-kicks for Rayon Sports, while Asman Ndikumana and goalkeeper Olivier Kwizera failed to score. For APR FC, Hakim Kiwanuka, Gilbert Byiringiro, Claude Niyomugabo, and Denis Omedi all converted from the spot to help the army side retain the trophy for a second consecutive year. Both sides showed urgency from the opening whistle, but neither managed to impose a consistent technical or tactical identity throughout the match. Rayon Sports broke the deadlock just before halftime when Asman Ndikumana calmly converted a penalty in the 44th minute, one of the few decisive moments in a disjointed first half. APR FC responded strongly after the break and equalized in the 52nd minute through William Togui Mel, who capitalized on a defensive lapse to finish from close range. Following the equalizer, APR FC dictated much of the tempo, pressing higher and committing more players forward in search of a winner. Rayon Sports were forced deeper into their own half, relying on quick counterattacks and the experience of goalkeeper Olivier Kwizera to remain level. As the intensity increased and midfield battles became more physical, neither side managed to create clear-cut scoring opportunities. The match eventually ended 1–1 after regulation time, sending the final to a decisive penalty shootout. The Peace Cup triumph marks the second major title of the season for head coach Adel Abdelrahim and his squad. By winning the competition, APR FC also secured Rwanda’s ticket to the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup.
