Agric exports rake in Rwf29bn in first half of May

Rwanda earned close to $20 million (approx. Rwf29 billion) from agricultural exports in the first half of May 2026, according to the National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB). Between May 4 and May 15, the country reaped about $19.8 million from the export of more than 19,500 tonnes of agricultural products. ALSO READ: Rwanda agric exports fetch Rwf15bn in one week The performance marks an increase compared to selected export figures from April 6-17, when NAEB reported about $17.7 million from more than 18,600 tonnes. Tea and diversified agricultural products remained Rwanda’s biggest export revenue earners during the period under review. In the week of May 4 to May 8, tea exports generated nearly $2.9 million, while diversified agricultural products brought in more than $4.1 million. ALSO READ: How export crop output rose by 35% in Q3 of 2025 During the following week, from May 11 to May 15, tea exports earned nearly $2.9 million, while diversified agricultural products generated more than $4.5 million. Coffee exports also recorded strong growth. Coffee generated about $865,000 in the first week of May before rising sharply to nearly $1.4 million in the second week. ALSO READ: How Rwanda plans to generate $1.5bn in agricultural exports Vegetable exports earned close to $934,000 over the two weeks, with major destinations including Great Britain, the Netherlands, France, Germany, China and African countries. Fruit exports generated more than $614,000, mainly from markets in the United Arab Emirates and across Africa. Flower exports raked in over $157,000, with the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Nigeria among the key destinations. Animal products generated more than $1.2 million, mainly from exports to African countries. Earlier in April, Rwanda had also recorded strong agricultural export performance. NAEB data shows that Rwanda’s agricultural exports continue to find growing markets in Europe, the Middle East, the United States and across Africa.
