Rwanda Energy Group (REG) VC powered into the quarterfinals of the Africa Men’s Volleyball Club Championship after a commanding straight-sets victory over Uganda’s Sport-S at BK Arena on Wednesday. REG delivered a dominant 3–0 win (25-18, 25-17, 25-20), becoming one of the first teams to book a place in the last eight. The former Rwandan champions are joined by Kenya Port Authority (KPA), who also advanced to the quarterfinals and now await their next opponents as the knockout stage progresses. REG imposed themselves early, taking control of the opening set through the attacking prowess of Nicholas Matui and Merci Gisubizo. Their clinical offense and well-structured play ensured a comfortable 25-18 win. Sport-S attempted to respond in the second set, with head coach Malic Damulira making tactical adjustments to tighten the defense. However, REG maintained their grip on the match. Setter Crispin Ntanteteri expertly orchestrated play and chipped in with points, while captain Thon Maker Madol and Emmy Twagirayezu delivered powerful spikes to secure the set 25-17. The Rwandan side carried that momentum into the third set, staying dominant despite a brief scare when Gisubizo left the court following an awkward landing while attempting a save. REG remained composed and sealed the match 25-20. “I thank God for this win. Sport-S is not a small team. There are always changes in the game, and we will keep learning how to handle them as we move forward to the quarterfinals,” Matue said after the match. Earlier, KPA booked their place in the last eight with a hard-fought 3–1 victory over Uganda’s Nemo Star (25-21, 22-25, 25-22, 25-23), overcoming a spirited second-set fightback. Following the defeats, both Ugandan sides—Sport-S and Nemo Star—drop into the classification matches for positions 9–16. The round of 16 continues later today at BK Arena with more fixtures set to determine the remaining quarterfinalists.
