President Paul Kagame has congratulated Paris Saint-Germain and Atlético de Madrid—both partners of the Visit Rwanda campaign—following their qualification for the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. Kagame shared his message after both clubs secured quarter-final victories on Tuesday, eliminating Liverpool FC and FC Barcelona respectively. PSG, the reigning European champions, defeated Liverpool 2-0 at Anfield to seal a 4-0 aggregate victory and book their place in the last four. In a message posted on his X account, Kagame praised the French side for a “strong performance and a well-deserved result,” adding, “Wishing you the best in the next stage.” Atlético de Madrid also progressed after edging Barcelona 3-2 on aggregate. Despite a 2-1 defeat in the second leg at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano in Madrid, the Spanish side did enough to secure their semi-final spot. “Congratulations as well to Atlético de Madrid on an impressive win and qualification for the UEFA semi-finals! Wishing you continued success!” Kagame wrote. In the semi-finals, PSG will face the winner of the tie between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, while Atlético will meet either Arsenal FC or Sporting CP. Rwanda’s partnership with PSG and Atlético de Madrid is part of the country’s broader strategy to promote tourism through the Visit Rwanda initiative, which has gained global visibility through European football.
