Residents of Kigali have until April 2 to complete their registration the new digital ID, with authorities calling on people to use the remaining time while services are readily available across the city. According to Josephine Mukesha, the Director General of NIDA, the aim is to make the process as easy and accessible as possible for everyone. Anyone unable to register before the deadline will still have an opportunity to do so, Mukesha told The New Times. After the campaign in Kigali ends, registration teams will continue their work in other parts of the country, starting with districts in Eastern Province, including Bugesera and Ngoma, in the first weeks. More districts in the region will follow, with a schedule to be shared in due course. Mukesha noted that no official extension or grace period has been announced for Kigali at this time. However, she explained that the national registration effort is ongoing. The intention is to ensure that every Rwandan is eventually registered, even if they miss the current phase in the city. Plans are in place to equip sector offices with registration kits so that services can continue at the local level beyond the mobile registration campaign. This will allow residents to register closer to where they live, even after the main teams have moved on. “Please do not wait. Register now while the teams are in your area and the process is at its most accessible,” Mukesha said.
