A couple from Mugombwa Sector in Gisagara District is expected to be arraigned before Ndora Primary Court for a pre-trial hearing following their arrest over alleged involvement in multiple murders. ALSO READ: More details emerge on Gisagara couple accused of killing visitors at their home The suspects, Rebecca Imanishimwe, 28, and her husband Félicien Ndayisaba, 32, were arrested on March 11 by the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) on charges including murder, mutilation, and concealment of human remains. According to Faustin Nkusi, spokesperson of the National Public Prosecution Authority (NPPA), the case file has already been submitted to court. “The case was received and submitted to Ndora Primary Court by NPPA, requesting a pre-trial hearing. The hearing date has not yet been fixed,” he said. Investigations indicate that the couple is suspected of killing three people at their home at different times since 2021. The case came to light after one of the victims, Violette Tuyizere, 30, disappeared on March 4. She had reportedly gone to the couple’s home early that morning to buy beans but did not return home by evening. Her husband, who was in the neighbouring Kansi Sector at the time, began searching for her. A witness later told the family that he had seen Tuyizere enter the couple’s compound that morning. When questioned by authorities, the suspects denied any involvement, claiming that the woman had come but left without making a purchase. However, local authorities were not convinced. “We had doubts, which required us to work with security entities. We found evidence suggesting she had been killed, including bloodstains on the walls of the toilet,” said Clisante Giraneza, Executive Secretary of Mugombwa Sector. A subsequent search of the premises led to the discovery of human body parts in a toilet at the couple’s home. During interrogation, Ndayisaba reportedly told investigators that he had hidden clothing belonging to some victims in a pit latrine at a neighbouring house owned by his brother. Further searches at that location led to the recovery of additional clothing and human remains linked to other missing persons. “Evidence confirmed three victims,” Giraneza said, noting that investigations suggest the victims were killed by being struck on the head with a blunt object. The bodies were allegedly dismembered and disposed of in a pit latrine at the couple’s residence. The victims have been identified as Tuyizere, Alexis Ndayisenga, 25, and Pacifique Iradukunda, 21. According to authorities, all three were bean traders who had been lured to the home under the pretext of a business transaction. “The woman would call people, telling them she had beans for sale. Some people who went there would not return,” Giraneza explained, adding that victims were attacked while weighing the beans. Investigators further revealed that one of the victims, Ndayisenga, was Ndayisaba’s younger brother, who had gone missing in 2021. At the time, suspicions had been raised by residents, but investigations did not yield conclusive evidence. Ndayisaba is said to have admitted to killing his brother following a domestic dispute, as well as Iradukunda on January 5 this year and Tuyizere on March 4.
