Kigali set to host continental nuclear energy summit

Kigali will in May host the 2026 Nuclear Energy Innovation Summit for Africa (NEISA), a continental forum that will focus on key challenges facing nuclear energy development in Africa, including financing, risk sharing, regulatory readiness and workforce capacity. ALSO READ: Nuclear energy not too risky for developing countries – Kagame Speaking in Paris, France on Tuesday, March 10 during the ongoing World Nuclear Energy Summit, President Paul Kagame hinted at the upcoming gathering in Kigali. He said Rwanda is pleased that the Director General of the IAEA, together with leaders from government, finance and industry, “will join us as we take this conversation back to Africa.” The upcoming NEISA will bring together government leaders, investors and industry executives to discuss how to mobilise investment and move nuclear energy projects forward in Africa. ALSO READ: Why Rwanda is betting on nuclear energy for socioeconomic growth It is organised by the Rwanda Atomic Energy Board in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), among other partners, aiming to align priorities, reduce fragmentation and accelerate the development of practical nuclear energy solutions. Heads of government, policymakers, investors and industry leaders are among other dignitaries expected to attend. The summit will be held under the theme: “Powering Africa’s future: Turning nuclear energy ambition into investable reality.”
